Getting started
No. As of October 2026, Babbel does not offer a Nepali course. Neither do Duolingo, Busuu or Rosetta Stone. If you want to learn Nepali, you need a resource built for it. Below is what each of the big apps does offer, and a free way to start Nepali today.
Learn one greeting, check what it means, then continue into a short lesson. You can try it without an account.
Lesson objective
Recognize “Namaste” and choose its English meaning.
First, learn
Hello / Greetings
Example
Hello! How are you?
We checked each company's own course list. Catalogues change, so if you are reading this much later, check the app before you subscribe.
| App | Nepali course | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Babbel | No | Its course list is mostly European languages, plus Indonesian and Turkish. |
| Duolingo | No | Offers Hindi, which shares the Devanagari script but is a different language. |
| Busuu | No | No South Asian language in its course list. |
| Rosetta Stone | No | Offers Hindi, not Nepali. |
NepaliGo is built only for Nepali. It teaches each word before it tests it, shows Devanagari next to romanization, and has audio for the words you practise. Start with the Greetings lesson, then move on through the beginner path at your own pace.
If you only need a few phrases for a trip, the phrasebooks are quicker: start with how to say thank you in Nepali. If you want to read signs and menus, the Devanagari alphabet reference lists every letter with its sound.
If you already speak Hindi, skip the basics of the script and read Nepali for Hindi speakers instead. For speaking practice, nothing replaces talking with a Nepali speaker, whether that is a tutor, a friend or family. An app gets you ready for that conversation; it does not replace it.

A short lesson that teaches namaste and the other everyday greetings, with audio. No account needed to begin.

Not as of October 2026. None of the three lists a Nepali course. Duolingo and Rosetta Stone both offer Hindi, which uses the same Devanagari script but is a separate language with different grammar, so a Hindi course will not teach you to speak Nepali.
Only the script and part of the vocabulary carry over. Nepali verbs, pronouns and everyday words differ enough that a Hindi course is not a substitute. If you already speak Hindi, a guide written for that starting point is the faster route.
Yes. NepaliGo's first greeting lesson runs in the browser without an account, and the phrasebooks and Devanagari alphabet reference are free to read. Signing up saves your progress.
